The mission of Passing the Torch: Witnesses to the Holocaust is to illuminate the world with knowledge of those who experienced the horrors of the Holocaust firsthand.  We are a senior English Honors class from Nashville Community High School in Nashville, Illinois, and each student in our class became a witness to either a survivor, a rescuer, a resister, a victim, or a liberator.  Elie Wiesel once said “to listen to a witness is to become a witness.”  Each of us has become a witness to an individual who was affected by this genocide.  By becoming a witness, it is our responsibility to pass the torch to as many people as we can to tell the world of these stories and make them witnesses as well.  By illuminating the world, we hope to prevent another atrocity such as the Holocaust.
